It is your first meet. You hope that everything you did in training will lead to a respectable total. You're nervous about the timing. When do I warm-up? How early do I wrap my knees? How much time do I have before my attempt comes up again? You wonder if you picked the right opener. If I screw up one thing, 16 weeks of training will be wasted.
You've been training for two years. With four meets under your belt, you have put 300 pounds on your total. You're comfortable with the basics of a meet, but you still haven't put everything together to have your best performance. You seem to lose the groove on your third bench press every time. When you get a good squat, you get stapled in the pull. You know something needs to change but you aren't sure what you're doing wrong.
As an advanced lifter, you've taken the steps to approach an elite total. You've found that one lift that goes up no matter what you do, but the other two hardly budge. You've had some guidance from better lifters and worked to improve your technique — but your strength on the platform does not match your expectations from the gym.
